DSO CELEBRATES BENJAMIN BRITTEN’S CENTENNIAL WITH A PERFORMANCE OF HIS PIANO CONCERTO

DETROIT, (October 3, 2013) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will be honoring the 100th anniversary of English conductor and composer Benjamin Britten’s birth with a performance of his Piano Concerto featuring British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, with DSO Assistant Conductor Teddy Abrams conducting. Three performances, taking place on Friday, October 25 at 10:45 a.m.; Saturday, ,October 26 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, October 27 at 3 p.m., will also feature Wagner’s Overture to The Flying Dutchman, Sibelius’s The Oceanides and Debussy’s La mer.

All patrons are invited to a free pre-concert talk in which Teddy Abrams will give a lecture on the program, taking place one hour prior to the Saturday and Sunday performances in Orchestra Hall.

The Friday, October 25 performance will be webcast live to a global audience via the DSO’s Live From Orchestra Hall series of HD webcasts. Hosted by WDET 101.9 FM’s Alex Trajano, the broadcast will begin at10:45 a.m. and will include pre-concert and intermission interviews.
