Detroit Symphony Orchestra reaches successful resolution with its lender syndicate

Settlement fully satisfies DSO’s obligations on The Max

(DETROIT—May 31, 2012) — With the sounds of Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) concerts and Civic Youth Ensemble rehearsals still reverberating throughout the Max M. Fisher Music Center, the DSO announced Thursday that it has reached a successful resolution with its five-bank lending syndicate.

“When I took the role of chairman in December of 2009, a main objective was to put the DSO on sound financial footing,” said DSO Chairman Stanley Frankel. “With today’s news, we have moved closer to that goal.”

Arthur A. Weiss, Treasurer and Executive Committee member of the DSO, made the announcement Wednesday at a meeting of the DSO Executive Committee. READ MORE

DSO webcasts Detroit Torino Urban Jazz Project

(DETROIT, May 30, 2012) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has added a coda to the inaugural season of its “Live from Orchestra Hall” webcast series this Friday as it streams the North American premiere of Detroit-Torino Urban Jazz Project with the DSO presented by Fiat. The concert will air in its entirety on Friday, June 1 at 8 p.m., complete with host Alex Trajano delivering pre-concert and intermission features. Leonard Slatkin and the DSO release second CD on Naxos with ‘Songs For Lada’

DETROIT, (May 29, 2012)-Today the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and Music Director Leonard Slatkin released their second recording together on the Naxos label entitled, “Songs for Lada.” The CD features two works by Belarus-born composer Alla Borzova; Songs For Lada and To The New World. DSO Pops Salute Swing Legends, Calloway and Ellington

DSO announces second annual Heroes Gala

Detroit, (May 22, 2012) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s (DSO) has announced the details of its second annual Heroes Gala & Benefit, its largest annual fundraiser, to take place on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 7 p.m. Led by DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin, the program will feature a special tribute to honoree Lloyd Reuss, DSO Officer-At-Large and long-time Detroit philanthropist. The DSO founded the Heroes Gala in honor of the remarkable men and women who impact the vision, values, and success of the DSO.

Selections to be performed include John Williams’ Summon the Heroes, Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, selections from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and more hero-themed favorites.

The evening begins with an opening reception in the Max M. Fisher Music Center Atrium at 6 p.m. and continues with a DSO concert in Orchestra Hall at 7 p.m. Following the concert, guests will enjoy a wonderful dinner and dancing into the wee hours. DSO Neighborhood Chamber Recital Features Works of Mozart and Prokofiev

Detroit, (May 16, 2012) –The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is pleased to announce its upcoming Neighborhood Chamber Recital featuring a dynamic, varied program of music that includes the Mozart duo for violin and viola and the virtuosic Prokofiev Oboe Quintet. DSO 2011-12 Classical Season Ends with Four Symphonic Blockbusters

Detroit, (May 9, 2012) – The 2011-12 Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) Classical Season ends in roaring fashion when Leonard Slatkin and the DSO perform four symphonic blockbusters – Ravel’s La Valse, Cindy McTee’s Symphony No. 1: Ballet for Orchestra, John Williams’ Cello Concerto with DSO Principal Cello Robert deMaine, and Respighi’s thunderous I pini di Roma [The Pines of Rome], a musical tour of the titular city. With brass blazing from the four corners of Orchestra Hall, it’s a spectacular close to another season. The performances at Orchestra Hall will take place on Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 18 at 10:45 a.m. and Saturday, May 19 at 8 p.m.
