DSO Welcomes Star Trek’s George Takei

Detroit, (Mar. 5, 2012) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) welcomes special guest narrator and Star Trek actor, George Takei for the Pops Concert series, A Sci-Fi Spectacular, this weekend. Renowned pops conductor Jack Everly will lead the Orchestra, along with guest soprano Kristen Plumley and Wayne State University Symphonic Choir, in bringing an “out of this world” production featuring music from Star Wars, Star Trek, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Day the Earth Stood Still and more. DSO announces new assistant conductor

DETROIT, (March 5, 2012) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is proud to announce that Teddy Abrams,ted89adj 24, has signed on as Assistant Conductor with the DSO, the first of an esteemed group of young musicians scheduled to join the Orchestra this year. Relocating to Detroit from Budapest, where Abrams is the Resident Conductor of the MAV Symphony Orchestra, he is the first to hold this type of position with the Orchestra since Thomas Wilkins vacated the role in 2009. Abrams will conduct three Education Concerts in Orchestra Hall this week, and his contract officially begins in September, 2012. READ MORE
