Radio Personality to Narrate DSO’s Peter & the Wolf


Detroit, (Feb. 21, 2012) –The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) welcomes radio personality, Craig Fahle to narrate its performance of Peter and the Wolf next weekend. Music Director Leonard Slatkin will also lead the Orchestra in David Del Tredici’s Final Alice, a celebration of Alice in Wonderland, with special guest and Grammy award-winning soprano, Hila Plitmann. The performances will take place on Thursday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, March 3 at 8 p.m. The performance will be webcast to a global audience on Saturday, March 3 at 7:50 p.m. via the DSO’s “Live from Orchestra Hall” series. Grammy award-winning soprano Hila Plitmann has quickly become a glittering jewel on the international music scene, known worldwide for her astonishing musicianship and gossamer voice. She regularly premieres works by today’s leading composers while maintaining a vibrant and extraordinarily diverse professional life in film music, musical theatre, and song writing. Plitmann has accumulated an impressive catalog of professional recordings, appearing on the Decca, Telarc, Naxos, CRI, Reference Recordings and Disney labels. The Da Vinci Code soundtrack (Decca) was a worldwide bestseller, spending several weeks on the Billboard charts. Both Paul Revere’s Ride (Telarc), and The Da Vinci Code received Grammy nominations, and in 2009 Plitmann won the Grammy for ‘Best Classical Vocal Performance’ for her work on the Naxos recording of John Corigliano’s song cycle Mr. Tambourine Man with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Plitmann can also be heard on the soundtrack of the film New York, I Love You.

WDET radio personality, Craig Fahle, has spent the vast majority of his life here in Metro Detroit. After studying Political Science and history at Western Michigan University, Fahle attended the Specs Howard School of Media Arts. While there, he turned an internship at WDET into a job covering Detroit’s city council. In 1994, Fahle went to work the State Capitol beat for the Michigan Public Radio network. He returned to WDET in 1996, where he was a reporter, and eventually local host of Morning Edition, a post he held for nine years. He left WDET for a second time, for an editorial position at public radio station WFAE in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1997, Craig found himself returning home to WDET to handle his dream job of hosting a daily talk show, The Craig Fahle Show.

David Del Tredici, composer of Final Alice will join Music Director Leonard Slatkin on stage for a special pre-concert discussion about the efforts behind the piece. The free presentation will take place in Orchestra Hall on Saturday, March 3 at 7 p.m.


Tickets to Peter and the Wolf/Alice in Wonderland begin at $15 and may be purchased at the Max M. Fisher Music Center box office (3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit); by calling (313) 576-5111; or online at Detroit residents may reserve a ticket for $20 each in any section, excluding the box level, within two weeks of the performance. A valid photo ID with a Detroit address is required. Military personnel who returned home this year may receive up to two free tickets to all Orchestra Hall Classical and Jazz concerts. Seating is subject to availability and excludes box level. Limit two tickets per performance. Tickets must be reserved within two weeks of the performance.
