The Detroit Symphony Orchestra Opens its 2011-12 Season with New Faces and a New Concerto

DETROIT, (September 13, 2011) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) opens its 2011-12 classical season with the North American premiere of Michel Camilo’s Piano Concerto No. 2, “Tenerife,” conducted by music director Leonard Slatkin and featuring the composer himself at the piano. The program also includes Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Berlioz’s vivid masterpiece, Symphonie fantastique. Six musicians will take the stage in new leadership roles as acting principals of their section. This concert series is sponsored, in part, by Strategic Staffing Services, PVS Chemicals, Inc., Target, and The MASCO Corporation Foundation. DSO Recruits Senior Director of Patron & Institutional Advancement; Announces Senior Director of Patron Engagement & Loyalty Programs

DETROIT, (September 26, 2011) – In an important step in its development of a sustainable, patron-centric business model, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) announced today the recruitment of Reimer Priester as senior director of patron and institutional advancement. Priester was previously the director of development at the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The DSO also officially announces Scott Harrison as senior director of patron engagement and loyalty programs and executive producer, digital media. Harrison joined the DSO in October 2010. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Leonard Slatkin Announce Free Community Week With Five Free Concerts

DETROIT, (September 16, 2011) – As the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) pursues its goal of becoming the most accessible orchestra on the planet, the DSO and Music Director Leonard Slatkin are pleased to present five free concerts through DSO Community Week from September 29-October 2, just one week before the 2011/12 season officially opens. Concert performances will occur at locations in Troy, Ypsilanti, Woodhaven and Detroit, culminating in a special open house performance at Orchestra Hall. DSO Community Week is made possible by the DTE Energy Foundation. Although tickets are free to all performances, in most cases reservations are required as space is limited. “Mondays at the Max with Wayne State” concert series opens Oct. 10

DETROIT (Sep. 12, 2011) — In cooperation with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Wayne State University Department of Music is pleased to announce “Mondays at the Max with Wayne State,” a new concert series featuring premier WSU student ensembles at the Max M. Fisher Music Center. This new collaboration gives music students the opportunity to perform in a world-class venue to larger audiences.

Maestro Slatkin in Lyon

Le-Progress-Supplement will live stream a performance of Leonard Slatkin and the Orchestre National de Lyon this Thursday, 9/15 at 2 pm EST. The program includes Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G minor performed by Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
