CONCERT MARKS SECOND YEAR OF DSO AND HENRY FORD HEALTH SYSTEM PARTNERSHIP

  DETROIT, (March 10, 2010) –Marking the second year in an innovative partnership, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and Henry Ford Health System will bring a free community concert titled Music and Healing to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital on March 15. The performance, conducted by Charles Greenwell and located in the Ravitz Foundation Main Atrium, begins at 7 p.m.   

Highlights of the all-string program include Tchaikovsky’s Serenade C major for Strings, J. Strauss and J. Strauss Jr.’s Pizzicato Polka, Anderson’s Plink, Plank Plunk; and Copland’s “Hoe Down” from Rodeo for String Orchestra.

In addition to this special concert event, the DSO/Henry Ford partnership continues to provide live music of DSO concerts in the 2010-2011 Season via digital feed to patients’ rooms at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

DETROIT, (Mar. 10, 2010) – Christian Zacharias, who has dazzled DSO audiences as a pianist, returns to Orchestra Hall in his DSO conducting debut to do double duty as both piano soloist and conductor in Bach & Beethoven. The program features Schumann’s Overture, Scherzo, and Finale, Op. 52, Bach’s Concerto for Clavier and Orchestra in D minor, W. 23, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60. DETROIT, (Mar. 10, 2010) – Celtic music makes an appearance at Orchestra Hall in a St. Patrick’s Day celebration as guest artists Cherish the Ladies and conductor Bruce Hangen join the DSO on Mar. 18-21. Cherish the Ladies (Joanie Madden, Mary Coogan, Mirella Murray, Kathleen Boyle, Caitlin Warbelow and Michelle Burke) deliver a unique blend of instrumental sounds with piano, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and more, along with beautiful vocals, stunning dance stepping and captivating arrangements that enchant listeners with the traditional music of Ireland. Performances take place Thu., Mar. 18 at 10:45 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Fri., Mar. 19 at 8:30 p.m.; Sat., Mar. 20 at 8:30 p.m; and Sun., Mar. 21 at 3 p.m.
