Macy’s Super Saturdays Return to the DSO with Young People’s and Tiny Tots Concerts That Excite Kids, Explore Music

DETROIT, (August 31, 2009) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) presents an exciting 2009-10 season family series with Macy’s Super Saturdays @ the DSO. Each Saturday includes arts and crafts for children, the Marshal Music petting zoo as well as the MASCO Corporation Foundation Young People’s Concerts (YPC) and The Henry Ford II Fund Tiny Tots Series. Performances for both YPC and Tiny Tots take place on Sat., Oct. 31, Nov. 21, Dec. 19 and Mar. 13 with an additional FREE bonus concert featuring Leonard Slatkin and the DSO’s Civic Orchestra on Dec. 12. The YPC performances begin at 11 a.m. in Orchestra Hall, last approximately 70 minutes and are recommended for children ages six and up. The Tiny Tots performances begin at 10 a.m. in The Music Box, last approximately 45 minutes and are recommended for ages 0-6.

MASCO CORPORATION FOUNDATION YOUNG PEOPLE’S CONCERTS

Upcoming Super Saturday YPC’s offer a stimulating introduction to classical music with some of the industry’s biggest names and include Thrills and Chills IV: A Halloween Special on Oct. 31; the rich harmonies of Michel Camilo in Camilo and Slatkin on Nov. 21; a FREE bonus holiday concert featuring holiday arrangements by Slatkin and student pianists as well as the DSO’s Civic Orchestra on Dec. 12; a Home for the Holidays Special with conductor Thomas Wilkins on Dec. 19; and on Mar. 13 world-renowned flutist James Galway, led by Slatkin.

THE HENRY FORD II FUND TINY TOTS SERIES

Equally exciting are the Super Saturday Tiny Tots performances, including Rock O’Ween with Candy Band, a spooktacular musical treat featuring children’s songs with a rock twist, on Oct. 31; a fun and interactive presentation about the importance of teamwork in jazz music and in our communities by the Kris Johnson Sextet titled Working Together on Nov. 21; and A Classical Tiny Tots on Mar. 13. This series provides both children and families an opportunity to enjoy a variety of musical genres, while also providing an opportunity to interact with musicians.

Individual and Subscription TICKETS for all YPC and Tiny Tots performances may be purchased at the Max M. An adult subscription for the MASCO Corporation Foundation Young People’s Concerts is $99 (all seats except boxes). A box seat subscription is $140. Up to two kids are FREE (for each performance) with the purchase of an adult subscription. Individual concert tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for kids. An adult subscription for The Henry Ford II Fund Tiny Tots Series is $33. Individual tickets are $12 for adults and children. Babes in arms are free.
